How to Cook Rice

Today is Sunday. It is 10:30 in the morning. My mother is teaching me how to cook rice. My mother says to me, "First, you must wash the rice and the pot carefully. Next, put the rice into the pot and add some water. The water should be just right, about one cup of water for every cup of rice. Then, cover the pot with a lid and turn the stove to medium heat. Let it cook for about 15 minutes. After that, turn off the heat and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes. Finally, fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains.

I follow my mother's instructions carefully. I wash the rice thoroughly until the water runs clear. Then, I add the rice to the pot and pour in the measured water. I make sure the pot is covered tightly before turning on the stove. As I wait for the rice to cook, I can smell the delicious aroma filling the kitchen. After 15 minutes, I turn off the heat and let the rice sit for the remaining time. When it's ready, I carefully remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. The rice looks fluffy and white, and it smells amazing.

Cooking rice is not only a practical skill but also a comforting routine. It reminds me of the time my mother spent teaching me how to make this simple yet delicious meal. Now, I can enjoy freshly cooked rice as a reward for my hard work.
