The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, is a symbol of Chinese civilization and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Beijing. Located in the heart of the city, it was the imperial palace for the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is now a museum that houses over a million pieces of artwork and artifacts.

The Forbidden City is a massive complex with nearly 10,000 rooms, spread over 90 acres. Its architecture is a blend of traditional Chinese and Ming dynasty styles, featuring large halls, pavilions, and gardens. The complex is surrounded by a 12-meter-high wall and a 52-meter-wide moat, creating a formidable barrier.

The central axis of the Forbidden City runs from the south gate, through the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Preserving Harmony, to the north gate, the Drum Tower. This axis is a significant feature of the city's layout and is a must-see for visitors.

The Forbidden City was built in 1406 and took 14 years to complete. It was home to 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties and served as the center of political and cultural life for the imperial court.

Today, the Forbidden City is not only a testament to ancient Chinese imperial grandeur but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Chinese history, culture, and architecture.
